FAQs

What do I need to do before my appointment?

Please ensure you eat prior to coming to an appointment. It’s recommended to wear loose fitting clothing so that acupuncture points can be accessed. Towels are provided for your privacy.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

The number of acupuncture sessions required varies depending on your specific condition, its severity, and your body's response to treatment. In general, a series of sessions is recommended to achieve optimal results. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your condition and discuss a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs. Many patients experience noticeable improvements after just a few sessions, while chronic or complex conditions may require additional treatments over a longer period. It is usually recommended to have an initial 4 sessions (1 per week) to see how you respond to acupuncture.

Does my insurance cover Acupuncture?

Many private health insurance companies now offer acupuncture. As a member of the AAC, many insurance providers are covered. Please contact your insurer for details.

The treatment room is on the ground floor and the building has disabled access via a ramp. The beds are adjustable to meet your needs. If you require any adjustments for your appointment, please get in touch.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, which views health as a balance of energy, known as Qi, flowing through meridians or pathways in the body. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, the flow of Qi is regulated, promoting harmony and balance within the body's systems. Modern research suggests that acupuncture may influence various physiological processes, such as releasing endorphins, enhancing blood circulation, and modulating the nervous system. This ancient practice provides a holistic approach to healing, addressing not only symptoms but also the underlying imbalances contributing to your condition.

Are there any side effects of acupuncture?

Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed acupuncturist. The most common side effects are minimal and temporary, such as mild soreness or bruising at the site of needle insertion. Serious complications are rare. It is important to disclose your complete medical history and any medications or supplements you are taking to ensure a safe and effective treatment. Your acupuncturist will address any concerns you may have and provide you with personalised care to ensure a positive experience.

Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture is generally not painful. Most patients experience minimal to no discomfort during the insertion of acupuncture needles. The needles used are extremely thin and flexible, making them different from the hypodermic needles used for injections. You may feel a slight sensation upon insertion, such as a tingling or a dull ache, but it is typically well-tolerated and often followed by a sense of relaxation.
